Saturday, June 1, 2019 Annual Conference Programming Details:

The Collective: Sparking the Movement of Change through Strategic Collaborations (3pm)

This presentation will focus on the importance of fostering and cultivating relationships to achieve organizational outcomes. Within this workshop, attendees will have the opportunity to reflect on their organization’s goals and utilize goal mapping to identify key partnerships. Presenter Kira Gatewood, Ed.D., Program Manager for Student Services within Barrett, The Honors College at Arizona State University, and a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., will talk through how to identify potential partners within the university and surrounding community, key aspects of developing partnerships, including top strategies for outreach, and ways to leverage partnerships to reach collective and individual organizational goals.

Your Life Story: The New Power of Narrative Storytelling (4pm)

“You can’t be what you can’t see.” Presenter Paisley Benaza, MBA, a communications strategist, PhD candidate and popular culture thought-leader believes that to spark the movement of change, it starts with others seeing you. This informative workshop will examine narrative storytelling, how to own your life story, and most importantly — have the courage to be a storyteller. Attendees will learn how to tap into cultural relevance, build trust, and use empathy to connect with the audience. “A life story doesn’t just say what happened, it says why it was important, what it means for who the person is, for who they’ll become, and for what happens next,” according to Julie Beck in The Atlantic. We will discuss how to harness “new power” in social media to drive social movements in your community and how we all need to be allies in equality in order to play a more meaningful role in people’s lives.

Interactive Workshop: Sparking the Movement of Change (5pm)

In an effort to build dialogue and coalition around the important issue of multiculturalism, this interactive workshop will address how to effect change in and through local and greater community outreach initiatives that are successful, innovative, and relevant to participants’ academic, business, and personal interests and experiences. Presenter Dr. Colette Sybille Jung, an ACE-ACUE certified educator who has learned and served in higher education for over a decade, will engage participants with information, guided self-reflections, community assessments, sample innovative initiatives, work-throughs, and networking.

The NMGC prides itself on being a forum that allows for the free exchange of ideas, programs, and services between constituent organizations, promoting the awareness of multicultural diversity within collegiate institutions, their surrounding communities, and the greater community-at-large, and to support and promote the work of its member organizations. As such, attendees can expect opportunities for interfraternal bonding, elections (for VP, University Liaison, PR Coordinator, and Treasurer), leadership development, and more.

See you in Sunny Arizona!
