The NMGC Rejects Racists Acts and Monitors the Impact of the COVID-19 Virus for Our Members

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

March 12, 2020

STATEMENT: The COVID-19 Virus – The NMGC rejects racists acts toward targeted groups and monitors the impact of the virus for our members.

Amidst the outbreak of the COVID-19 virus, there has been a rise in racism and xenophobia towards Asian communities and businesses across the nation. The NMGC does not condone such acts and we aim to support any of our members who have been impacted by acts of discrimination that have resulted from fear of the COVID-19 virus outbreak.

Stay Informed. Public health is a community effort. To learn more about hygiene actions to take during this time, we will be posting a guideline from the CDC on our website under our “Resources” section. The CDC and the World Health Organization are updating their sites with the most current information. To learn more, visit www.cdc.gov/coronavirus and www.who.int/emergencies/diseases/novel-coronavirus-2019.

Grassroots efforts and Community Care. We remain committed to supporting our member organizations as they monitor and respond to the outbreak in their respective organizations. We are standing ready to amplify our council’s needs and lead through community and not fear while encouraging mutual aid efforts and collective solidarity. To that end learn more about current demands from grassroots organizers concerning COVID-19 https://transformativespaces.org/2020/03/04/demands-from-grassroots-organizers-concerning-covid-19/

June 2020 NMGC Summer Conference

At this time, the summer conference is still scheduled to take place. UNC – Charlotte in addition to several other campuses in the United States have canceled in-person classes and moved all classes online.

Although there are no reported cases at the UNC – Charlotte campus, they are taking preventive measures that are in the best interest of the student body. The NMGC is closely monitoring COVID-19  and how this will affect the June 2020 Annual Summer Conference.

For any questions or concerns, contact Zondra Victor, Public Relations Coordinator, at pr@nationalmgc.org.
